The Shelborne Hotel is a South Beach classic. The hotel boasts a tropical, retro atmosphere befitting of its beachfront location in Miami’ s Historic Art Deco District. In 2011, the hotel completed a multi-million dollar renovation that preserved its original Art Deco character, while adding a modern flair. The Shelborne’ s breathtaking, refreshed façade is highlighted by Traxon’ s Dot XL-6 RGB; these fixtures were integrated into the sleek, architectural rows running beneath the guest room windows. To maintain the clean lines of the Art Deco aesthetic, the fixtures were hidden from view completely. During the day, concentrated light from an unseen source shines on the Shelborne’ s façade in static, incandescent white. Beginning at 8:00 p.m., the Dot XL-6 RGB fixtures transition to a programmed light show. From falling stars to swirling spirals, e:cue’ s Butler XT manages the changing scenes until dawn, when its internal timeclock changes the installation to static white, once again. The entire lighting show can be triggered by the e:cue Glass Touch T12.
