This year the Hong Kong Tourism Board hosts a mid-autumn celebration, Lantern Wonderland, in Victoria Park. The design concept was selected through a design competition and CL3 was the winner of this competition.The centerpiece of the 2011 celebration was a massive, fish-shaped lantern, sculpted out of more than 2,000 LED-lit Chinese lanterns. Every 15 minutes, the sculpture entertained festival attendees with a musical light show; between the shows, it subtly changed appearance. CL3, the project designer, was able to orchestrate this brilliant, world record-setting display, while LEDARTIST implemented the advanced lighting fixtures and control products supplied by Traxon & e:cue. With their high-intensity light, weather resistance, customizable pixel pitch, and ease of installation, Traxon’ s Dot XL was ideal for this project. 250 Dot XL-6 RGB fixtures were applied to the organic form of the sculpture. The lights were programmed to interact with different musical pieces, composed specially for the celebration. To control the display both on-demand and automatically, custom software was written, and e:cue’s Video Micro Converters (VMCs) e:pix were added to manage all of the LED fixtures.
